[dropcap style=”font-size: 60px; color: #A02F2F;”] A[/dropcap]s the number of subscribers to Bluestone Magazine continues to grow, we plan to bring more exclusive, subscriber-only events to south-west Victoria.

An evening with acclaimed Australian author Helen Garner, in conversation with Bluestone co-editor Carol Altmann on Thursday April 21 at Blarney Books & Art, Port Fairy, is our first such event. (Subscribers have first access to the limited 60 tickets – any remaining tickets will then be offered to the general public.)

This exclusive event is a one-off opportunity to hear and meet Helen in the south-west, as she will be doing very little public promotion for the release of her new book, Everywhere I Look, (to be released in late March).

We can guarantee that this will be a fabulous, intimate evening, limited to only 60 people. Merrijig Kitchen is providing canapés, and there will be wine on arrival.

We know the Bluestone community is interested in hearing from inspiring artists, authors, leaders and those who have chosen to live their life differently, so we intend to stage events that feature just these sorts of people.

[dropcap style=”color: #ddce8d;”] A [/dropcap]n exhibition of whimsical sculptures by artist and illustrator Jenny Laidlaw is in its final days at Blarney Books and Art, Port Fairy, with a talk by the artist herself this weekend (May 25).

Jenny, who lives in Jan Juc, on the Great Ocean Road, creates beautiful, eye-catching works by manipulating the pages of a humble book and then adding Prosculpt human figures to each piece.

As Jenny says in her promotional material for the work, “the figures sit atop their literary throne, creating a vessel for emotion, message and imagination”.

The “Pages, Pen and Paint” exhibition also features Jenny’s highly detailed and colourful illustrations that, once again, capture the world of fantasy and imagination through pen, ink and watercolours.

Jenny will speak about her work at a free event next Sunday (May 25) at 3pm at Blarney Books and Art, 37 James St, Port Fairy. You can also find out more about Jenny’s work on her website here.
